A short film by Sampurna Ghosh
When
we think of Hyderabad, it is Charminar and Hyderabadi biryani that comes to our
mind. Hyderabad and Hyderabadi biryani is almost synonymous, each giving the
other its unique identity. In the short film ‘Hyderabadi Irani Chai’, filmmaker
Sampurna Ghosh explores one of Hyderabad’s most well kept secrets – its Irani
chai. She beautifully captures the essence of Hyderabad, its quaint old world
charm and its rich living traditions – in this case the Irani Chai – that
continues to survive despite the many onslaughts of CCDs, Baristas, Starbucks. Like many Indian cities, Hyderabad too is
never about- out with the old and in with the new; it is about the old with the
new. It is about Charminar and the IT
hub, and Irani chai with the Starbucks.
